A in the villa kitchen
A villa week is not seven copies of the same dinner. Breakfast is quiet and early. Lunch, if anyone is in the house, is one plate. Dinner is the meal that has a beginning and an end.
I keep a short list on the fridge: what is left, what the market had, what someone asked for the night before. The next menu comes from that list. Nothing is ordered in from a catalogue the week before and then forced onto the table.
The kitchen is left as it was found, or cleaner. That is part of the job in a house that is not mine. The pans go back, the boards are scrubbed, and the rubbish from the market is out before the evening starts.
